Never Ever Mix These Household Cleaning Chemicals Ramona, January 13, 2023March 13, 2024 As I scrolled through Tik Tok’s #CleanTok category, I couldn’t help but see so many videos of people dumping so many chemical compounds into their toilets and sinks. Although these kinds of videos may satisfy viewers, mixing random chemicals is extremely dangerous. So, in this article, I will further explain why you should never EVER mix certain chemicals together. Never Ever Mix: Bleach & Ammonia Bleach and ammonia produce toxic gases known as chloramines when combined. In addition to this, chloramine gas vapors can cause nausea and coughing. Bleach & Vinegar Bleach and vinegar produce highly toxic, lethal chlorine gas. Cleaning chemicals are highly dangerous to mix, but if you do, leave the area immediately if a pungent smell is detected. Furthermore, peracetic acid is unsafe and can irritate the skin, eyes, nose, throat, and lungs. Hydrogen peroxide and vinegar are okay to use consecutively on a surface but do not mix them in a single bottle. Never Ever Mix: Bleach & Rubbing Alcohol Chloroform is formed when bleach is mixed with rubbing alcohol, which damages the eyes, lungs, liver, kidneys, brain, heart, and bone marrow. Bleach & Toilet Bowl Cleaner When bleach and toilet cleaner are mixed, they release toxic fumes of chloramine gas. The fumes can irritate the skin, eyes, and nose, cause vomiting, and pneumonia, and lead to fluid accumulation in the lungs. At higher concentrations, chloramine gas irritates the eyes and skin. If the concentration of chloramine gas is high enough, it can cause death. Read This Too: Mindblowing Magic Eraser Uses You’ll Wish You Knew Sooner! Bleach & Pine Sol When bleach and Pine-Sol are mixed, chlorine gas is produced. Do not mix bleach and Pine-Sol! Immediately open all windows and doors to ventilate the area if you accidentally mixed bleach and Pine-Sol. You should then pour the mixture down the drain after diluting the mixture with water. Bleach & Fabuloso Chlorine gas can also be created when Fabuloso and bleach are mixed. If bleach and Fabuloso were accidentally mixed, open all windows and doors for ventilation. Afterward, dilute the mixture with water and pour it down the drain. Never Ever Mix: Different Drain Cleaners Try to avoid mixing different brands of drain cleaner when clearing sink clogs. While some drain cleaners are acidic, others are alkaline. When those are combined, they can generate a lot of heat. Mixing drain cleaners can damage pipes or cause an unsafe buildup of pressure inside pipes. Moreover, drain cleaners have some extremely toxic ingredients, and mixing two brands of drain cleaners can create a poisonous gas, such as chlorine gas, or an explosion.
